| The following Rushes, Sedges and allies may be found in the Ryedale area. We do not necessarily have definite records for all of them (there is a significant quantity of historical data in the Societys files which we are still working through). The sedge pictured right is one of the commonest species, growing on verges and track-sides especially where the soil is somewhat limy. It has glaucous i.e. greyish leaves, usually 2 male spikes at the top and two drooping female spikes on long stalks below.
